INEC Facility Attacked Again

INEC office facility was attacked again in Owerri, Imo sate capital. About Four people, including a police officer, were killed in a police-repulsed attack on the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) headquarters at Owerri, the capital of Imo state.
The spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, Mike Abattam, said the armed men, in numbers stormed the area around 3am armed with weapons and dynamite.
He, in turn, said the bandits were confronted by security agents who repelled the attack and killed three of the attackers.
Abattam also said among assailants that attacked INEC facility again, two were arrested by police and three used vehicles belonging to the bandits were recovered.
Attacks on INEC headquarters across the country become worrisome as the 2023 elections approach. Before Monday’s attack, two other attacks were recorded in Imo – in the Oru West Local Government Area and in the Orlu Local Government Area.
Ebony, Ogun and Osun state was recently victims of the attack on INEC Facilities, where INEC materials worth billions of naira including PVCs were destroyed.
However, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu assured Nigerians that the attacks on the election arbitrator’s offices will not affect the 2023 general election.
